A Matter of Balance

Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance is a program designed for communitydwelling adults age 60 and older to increase activity levels and reduce the fear of falling. If you are concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past, or are interested in improving your flexibility, balance and strength, this class is for you.

Gentle Yoga Flow

This playful gentle flow class is designed for all levels. Certified yoga instructor Kyla Cech will offer lots of verbal cues for alignment, breath and grounding and introduce poses with several alternatives to suit a wide range of students. This class follows a hatha yoga structure with amore energizing first half and a relaxing end.

Intermediate Yoga

Tai Chi for Osteoporosis

Tai Chi has been shown to slow the loss of bone density and to improve balance and reduce risk of falls. This beginner-level class contains uniquely powerful qigong movements along with agile steps as well as graceful and slow weight bearing movements to promote strength. Join Adrienne Gallant, certified in Tai Chi for Osteoporosis, for this six-week class to gain inner strength, stronger muscles and better balance ofboth mind and body.

Walkers and joggers of all fitness levels are invited to come together with clinical team members from Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital to exercise and learn about the many health benefits of being active. Whether you are new to exercise, considering training for a 5k or an avid runner, this group is for you. Families are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult. No previous exercise experience required; please consult your physician prior to starting an exercise regimen.
